Descriptions

An archival collection relating to the Sydney based transport services of Arthur H Gillott Pty Ltd, which included the St Ives Bus Service, Pymble St Ives Hire Cars and Highway Haulage Pty Ltd dating from 1935 to 1998.

This archive relates to the transport company established by Arthur Gillott in 1935. Over a period of 63 years Arthur H. Gillott, together with his family, developed and operated a multi-faceted road transport and haulage service comprising small delivery tip trucks, buses, taxis, hire cars and heavy haulage vehicles. The company's growth and development was a microcosm of what was occurring in the wider community in relation to Australian transport history. Established by Arthur Gillott in 1935, the firm began with two small tip trucks and by the 1990s had grown to a fleet in excess of 80 vehicles from Kenworth prime movers hauling 3-axle trailers to 53-seat Leyland Tiger buses. The archive comprises office books, certificates, correspondence, bus timetables, journal and newspaper articles relating to the company, certificates, business letterheads, fridge magnets, flyers, letters from customers, catalogues, typed memoirs, bus, car and motorcycle licenses, and a large collection of photographs.
