This collection consists of 56 binaural and monaural stethoscopes and two Phonendoscopes of historical interest. Most are from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and were donated from the Victorian Branch of the Australian Medical Association historical collection of documents in 1994.

This collection consists of 56 binaural and monaural stethoscopes and two Phonendoscopes of historical interest. Most are from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and were donated from the Victorian Branch of the Australian Medical Association historical collection of documents in 1994. One stethoscope has provenance to Dr. James Jamieson's who practiced in Warnambool and later lectured in Obstetrics at Melbourne University. Another early wooden stethoscope was owned by Dr. E.G. Figg. Also includes are a wooden monaural stethoscope from the late nineteenth century by Mayer & Meltzer and a folding example made to fit in clips inside a physician's top hat. In addition there is a phonendoscope of the kind patented by Bazzi and Bianchi circa 1897 and a ""Presidency General Hospital Model"" binaural stethoscope chest piece donated by the Royal Australian College of Surgeons.

This collection contains a range of medical and scientific instruments of significance to the history of Science in Australia.
