Descriptions

ACMI acquire one of Australia's most significant private collections of television and pop culture memorabilia in 2006. The Bob Phillips Collection, assembled by veteran TV Producer Bob Phillips, with the cooperation of Australia's major television networks, features technical equipment from Australian television's very beginnings, including a camera used to shoot the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, together with memorabilia from some of Australia's most iconic television personalities and programs.

Bob Phillips started collecting television memorabilia when he began his TV career at Melbourne's GTV9 as a film editor in 1959. He moved to live television, first as a production assistant, then working his way up to floor manager for Graham Kennedy's In Melbourne Tonight. He continued to build the collection over the next 20 years, as well as going on to produce many Australian favourites such as The Graham Kennedy Show, The Mike Walsh Show, Hey Hey It's Saturday and a number of other Nine productions. After leaving the industry, Mr Phillips opened TV World, a museum dedicated to the preservation of Australia's TV history. His collection was acquired by ACMI in 2006
